ATHLETICS

The Boys Cross Country finished 3rd out of 15 teams at the Graham Invitational on Saturday.  Justin Bland won the individual title with a 17:06 effort.  Varsity scoring was rounded out by Andrew Watt, “Mile Killer” Kyle Miller, Josh Cooper, Brandon Waggoner, Joel Fye, & Karson Ebbing.  Breakthrough performer of the day goes to Noah Florkey who dropped a 45 second personal best! 

 

The Girls XC team shined and won the Invitational!  They were paced by Hannah & Hailey Hoops who finished as medalists in 5th and 6th place.  Varsity scoring was completed by Kori Moore, Lauren Taylor, Olivia Rice, Morgan Smith, Sophia Koewler, and Kyle Wilson!  It really was a team effort.  The girls all ran well on a difficult course!  Breakthrough performer for the girls was Hannah Hoops who ran a personal best time of 21:29! The teams will be in action this Saturday at the Versailles Tour de Sewer! 

 

The Devils football team defeated the Greyhounds Friday night 60-18.  Connor Michael and Jack Meyers each scored three touchdowns.  Daniel Dominique added two touchdown receptions from AJ Eller.  Kiah Getter and Lane Hamiel led the defense with seven tackles each.  This week we open league play against Eaton. Our theme this homecoming week is Blue and White!

 

The golf team placed seventh out of 15 teams at the Middletown Christian Invitational tournament this weekend. Congratulations to Kyle Neff who was the individual runner-up with a great score of two over par 74.  Other top scores for the Blue Devils were Eric Gordon and Thad Hartley 89.  

 

For all students interested in participating in the swim team this year: there will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 25th during lunch in Room 307. All individuals interested in swimming this year are welcome to attend regardless of your level of experience.

GUIDANCE  NEWS

All students: Have you completed a lot of volunteer/community service hours over the past year? If so, stop by the guidance office for more information on the "Prudential Spirit of Community Awards" program. If you are a student who is making a difference through volunteering, you can apply and be in the running to win a scholarship and a trip to Washington DC. See guidance office for details!

 

The next ACT test date is October 26th and the deadline to register on time is September 20th.  Seniors, if you are thinking about going to college next year and have only taken the test once, you need to think about taking it again!  For more information and to register, go to actstudent.org

 

Seniors, on Tuesday, September 17th, you will all be attending a presentation about choosing a career that is right for you.  This will be presented by Sinclair and will be at 8:00am in the auditorium.  

 

Juniors and Seniors: There will be several colleges representatives from various colleges/universities coming to visit over the next several weeks. UD will be here on 9/16, University of Mount Union  9/24, Sinclair 9/26 and Ohio Univ 10/8. We have also added Indiana University East and University of Findlay. Most will be held during 1st period and you must sign up in the guidance office to be able to attend. Please check in with the guidance office as the list of colleges keeps growing!! 

 

Attention high school students! Fifth Third Bank is hosting its 12th annual College Prep Night at Fifth Third Field on the evening of Wednesday, September 25th.The event will provide you and your family with information you need as you prepare for the college search and transition process.  In addition, each pre-registered student at the event will receive exclusive raffle tickets that can be used to enter to win college-themed raffle prizes. Representatives from colleges including Wright State, Cedarville, Ball State, Xavier, University of Toledo, Sinclair, Miami, Northern Kentucky, Ohio Army National Guard, Eastern Kentucky, and many more will be in attendance. Register for this FREE event online at daytondragons.com/collegeprep.  

 

HOMECOMING INFO

Outside guest forms are on the counter for homecoming.  Deadline to turn them in with all signatures is September 18th.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

MISCELLANEOUS

Student Section Shirts are now on sale.  Check your email, Student Square accounts for the link. Shop closes Sept. 22nd.  Order and pay online online. Any questions, see Mrs. Spangler. 

 

Key Club is hosting a canned food drive this week!  Be sure to bring in canned goods to your homeroom and you will get tickets there.  Every canned good equals five tickets.  For every 100 canned goods a teacher gets “pied” at the pep assembly on Friday.  We are in a competition with Eaton and the winner will be announced at the homecoming game!

 

Attn: Seniors!!! Turn in your senior order for Josten’s on SWAP Day at lunch between 11-2 outside the cafeteria.

 

Attn: Sophomores!  Josten’s will be here on Friday, 9/20 taking class ring orders outside the cafeteria from 11-2.   Don’t forget to bring in a family member’s class ring for the “Oldest  Ring Contest.”  Contest runs on Friday only!!  You also get a FREE Blue Devil Adidas backpack with a ring purchase on Friday only!  Extra packets are in the office.

 

Band and choir students who participated in this year's fundraiser will need pick up their items after school next Thursday September 26. ALL items must be picked up that day.

 

 

Come try out for this year’s fall play, “Arsenic and Old Lace!”  The play is a hilarious dark comedy about a man named Mortimer, his estranged brother, and the secret his two elderly aunts hold in the window seat.  Auditions will be Wednesday, 9/18 from 5-8p.m. and Thursday, 9/19 from 3-5p.m.  You don’t need to prepare anything in advance, just come out! Let Ms. Zinck know if you have any questions.

 

SWAP Day forms need to be turned in asap along with lunch money if eating the lunch provided by the FFA. 

 

Picture retakes will be on Tuesday October 1st starting at 7:00 a.m.

If you are driving to school, remember you MUST register your car and get a tag.  There is no charge for parking, but all students must register.  Get your registration form in the office today.

 

Miss Hunley's class wants to encourage everyone to increase recycling around the high school. Recycling reduces the amount of waste, conserves natural resources, prevents pollution, and saves energy. On Saturday, October 5, we will be hosting a work day at Golden Gate from 9:00 - 4:00.  The goal is to repair and paint the open air pavilions in the park.  The rain date will be Saturday, Oct. 12. Stop by the HS office to sign up.
